Twice lately, I've had a job turn out less than I wanted because I followed the boss' wishes or the customer's. Not the end of the world but I knew going in I'd rather do things a different way. Sure enough, a few things changed and I had to do crazy backtracking. I might have had a little friction doing it my way but nothing too serious.

If your gut is well tuned, follow it and don't let others dissuade you.

my gut always says "eat", i dont always listen ;)

If you can convince your boss that your way is better good on you. But I would never let a customer tell me how to do my job.

I agree that we serve a two-headed monster. The boss and the customer do a walk-thru, make a napkin drawing and agree on a price.

After I listen to the boss' version of what the customer wants, I go to the site and install what the customer needs.
