local disconnect location

Can you have the motor disconnect inside of a large box (24"x24" hoffman nema 3r). Box doesn't have any windows. The box is insight and within 50' of motors.

The box has 4 disconnects for 4 motors all in the same area. I think it has 2 problems.
1. If you are working on 1 of the fans and have to tag out that 1 in the box you are exposed to the other 3 disco's 480 voltage.
2. If tthe box id closed you couldn't see your lock out, and it would be a hazard to have the box open if any of th motors were running.

Art. 430.107 requires one disconnect to be readily accessible. So does the 3R box have a hinge?

The 3R box does have a hinge. The four disco's are for 4 different motors. This location has 4 large cooling fans.

It would be my opinion that if you have to open the cover to find the handle to operate the disconnect, than that disconnect is not within sight from the motor.

1. 2'x2' is not a large box.
2. As Don said, it's not within sight.
3. Why are you using components that are not finger-safe?

How do you gain access to the breaker ? (Does it require a screwdriver or is the cover closed by snap-latches)
