Kids have been turning off disconects to everything... ex motors, service, ac, chillers, pole lights

Are you allowed to lock a disconect in the on position? Is locking them on safe, what if someones shirt gets pulled into a motor and the disco is locked on, now what?

Please site the code

You have open machinery accessible to the public? You've got a larger problem than hooliganism, then.

But if you mean someone may be working on the equipment without being able to open the disconnect, that's a different story. They should ask for a key to the lock before they start.

Disconnects are not usually for emergencies. That's what E-stops are for. Disconnects allow a person who will be working on the apperatus to shut off the power to allow them to get elbow-deep in the thing without fear of it turning on.

And welcome to the forum!

As pointed out by 480Sparky, disconnects are not Emergency stops or offs.

Fire Dept. has bolt cutters.

They also usually have one of these:

You could also try putting signs like this up:

You mean diapers?:D

You local fire department may object to it.

Why would the fire department object to diapers ? I know they may smell like it but I don't think they are hazardous.

I could pm some pics of that. I hope you have a strong stomach tho. I dont think there would be time to react either way before disaster strikes on a large metal lathe.

I saw one of a guy wrapped up in one of those floor-model Hobart dough mixers. Yikes.

"Only on the floor model."

It sure convinced me not to go near any metal lathes. I have a newfound respect for them now. Poor guy didnt have a chance pulled him head first into the chuck didnt stop until it got to his short ribs.

I've had the distinct honor of being rather up-close and personal with a Muffin Monster. Sure wouldn't want to get caught in one of them! ;) Makes toothpicks out of 2x12 treated lumber.....

Dude! ....

Seriously... you don't want to get near one.

It comes with a control panel that has a jam sensor. We tried to jam it to test that function by sticking an 8' 2x12 treated into it. Slowed it down just a bit, but chewed it up pretty good and spit it out the other side. They make Tim Taylor's 2-stroke garbage disposal look like an egg beater.

I know where to go if I ever want to dispose of a body....
