long runs
Would the utility service for this installation be the the origination point of this circuit or will the circuit originate at an existing facility?
We have done several "long run" installations for ranches in our area. Typically these are single-phase but the principal is the same. We take the service at a standard voltage and reverse feed an oil-filled transformer and then run the "long run" at the higher primary voltage level, install another transformer at the end of the run and step back down. Oil filled trarnsformers offer a secure installation ( no openings for kids to poke sticks in etc) and we can install lightning arrestors and use load-break elbows for the high voltage terminations. I assume you have never terminated high-voltage cable but usually you can find someone who works for the local utility who would be willing to make those therminations for you. Basically you are doing what the utility company would do except you are having to step the voltage up to start your "long run".
