NECArticle240.5(A) Ampacities. Flexible cord and flexible cable shall be protected by anovercurrent device in accordance with their ampacity as specified in Table400.5(A)(1) and Table 400.5(A)(2). Fixturewires shall be protected against overcurrent in accordance with its ampacity asspecified in Table 402.5. Supplementaryovercurrent protection, as covered in 240.10, shall be permitted to be anacceptable means of providing this protection.
We have a refrigeration unit that is supplied by a 60 amp source. There is a flex cable between the source and the reefer unit. The source has a 60 amp connector and breaker. The reefer unit is protected by a 15 amp breaker. The issue is the amperage rating of the flexible cable between source and the reefer. It is rated to 25 amps. In anyone's opinion would this meet normal code? Why or why not? Is the exception listed 240.10 viable and does the configuration meet that exception?

Where supplementary overcurrent protection isused for luminaries, appliances or other equipment or internal circuits andcomponents of equipment, it shall not be used as a substitute for requiredbranch-circuit overcurrent devices, or in place of required branch-circuitprotection. Supplementary overcurrentdevices shall not be required to be readily accessible.
Any insight would be appreciated. We are trying to determine if the cable should be replaced or not.
