We have already had several inches of snow today. Went out to get some gas for the generator, and there are alot of snow weighted limbs over high voltage lines. Plus powere is out up the street at the red light. Looks like tommorow will be a good day for repairs.

Several inches of snow??? And that's enough to cause power to go out?? :-?

I think anyone who lives in a state that gets regular snow fall is laughing at this right now. We get a foot and no trouble, but if your poco doesn't do regular tree maintenance, then I can see why you would have problems.

We had an ice storm around 4 years ago. It took 7 days to get power back. The upper half of the street had it in 4. The bozo's left instead of hooking up that last broken section of the HV line. And yes, the tree maintenance is lacking. The POCO comes under fire with each limb they cut. Sadly, they have had some butchers in the past so now they err to the conservative side. I live in an old side of wtown, s alot of folks are real protective of the trees.

That said, there are alot of trees and limbs alreasy down. It has rained for almost 2 days, so the lims are saturated, it is a wet heavy snow, and the temp is going to 26. Plus, the wind is really picking up.

Guys, I don't know how to break this to you, but unless you have an actual ice storm, a few inches of snow is not going to be pulling services down. ;)

Down here in South Louisiana , a couple of inches of snow can cause real problems . A few months ago , we had about 4 inches or so , and it wreaked havoc on our system . Snow is rare this far South though .

A few inches of snow is one thing, but snow couple with rain and high winds will weak havoc anywhere

As someone that grew up in MN, and has lived all over this country, some warm, some nasty winter states, I can tell you this storm in the Carolinas right now is going to be crazy for the next 2 days, power out, whole state shut down. They just are not prepared for it.

All righty then...I guess us folks in the "4 season" states are just better. :D

I grew up in Syracuse where a 36" snowfall was not uncommon lake effect and when you got a couple back to back the snow would drift clean over the roof of the house.
Payloaders were the snow plows at this point. We all had snow tires and chains.
When I go to purchase snows on long island they look at me like i have 3 heads.
Drive a 4x4 with snows on it is a pleasure in the snow.
You just have to watch out for the others sliding all over the place what a surprise with no snow tires.
Common sence is not as common as you think. The next time it rains look around you and count how many people with umbrellas you see.
I just dont get it.
