Im meeting with a Aflac rep next week to discuss insurance if I would be injured. Since Im the only Jman in our business it would shut us down unless I could hobble to the job site and oversee things as license requires...

Any of you have good or bad experiences with this type of insurance?

or, have you had occassions where you had wished that you had it?

I broke my foot a couple years ago and would have been in a lot worse shape if I didn't have Aflac. I probably would have survived without it due to the fact it was on the job injury and work comp. paid out, but it still made up the difference. I think if you do intense sports and activities outside of work it's a must, but if your chances of getting hurt outside of work are low it's probably not necessary.

I had aflac about 5 years ago and I was playing soccer with some friends after work one day. Twisted my ankle something fierce. We had a truck load of lights coming in that next day. I showed up hobbled the stairs and got the lights in the building. My boss looked at me and said I needed to knock off for the rest of the day. A couple weeks later aflac sent me money for the day and a half I missed. So my opinion of aflac is there the only one worth having. Had a boss who offered dental insurance. Showed it to my dentist and they wouldnt accept it. Needless to say I dropped that policy and dont have insurance at this time. Im single and young therefore no intrest in insurance except maybe aflac

Our company had the Aflac rep come in about a year ago. Quite a few of us signed up, I think the plan I'm on is about $10 or so a week. Quite cheap when you consider how much you'll lose when you're hobbled up sitting at home wondering how long the savings account is going to hold out.....

You make a good point!

I think I need to get the AFLAC rep out to our business.

Thanks for the info, I'll be cautious for sure, now that I know..

Don't get me wrong. I am not dissing AFLAC. But spend your money first on regular short and long term disability insurance.

AFLAC typically only covers certain things like cancer, heart attack, or hospital inpatient. Many people think they are at a high risk for heart attack, or accidents, or whatever, and buy coverage for only those events. The coverage pays for those events, but if you buy heart attack insurance and you get hit by a car, you are out of luck. STD and LTD cover all events that disable you. Even hospitalization coverage is not a panacea. many disabilities where you are unable to work do not result in long hospital stays, but do keep you off work for long periods of time.

BTW, make sure you pay your STD and LTD out of taxed wages. That way when you collect on them, you will not owe any income taxes on those funds.

Aflac for the me as an employer is not that great of an idea,I draw a salary so if I miss a day so what but if I am injured and would have to step away from my business for several weeks then a short term disability plan would help defray the additional cost of hiring someone to do what i do.

Met with Aflac rep this morning....no go....you must have five employees to qualify for disability insurance, and three employees for the other coverages that they sell, but I did get my biscuits and gravy paid for !!!!!
