Hi friends, this is Louis Duke, the idiot that injured one eye BECAUSE I WAS NOT WEARING EYE PROTECTION, I am losing the vision fast in that eye and is nothing the doctors can do....Well, with so much violence in the world one eye is enough...Regarding the question in May about the ranch...Ah, by the way I apolagize for my poor grammar, but English is my second language (believe me, I am triying hard to be my first). I went back and I have now a clear (?) picture of the situation, but I have a little confusion regarding 250.32. Here is the situation: The main panel is installed in a wood post about 250' + from the house and about 125' from the tranformer, also in a wood post. This panel contains the main 200 amps OCD, one 100 amps OCD for the residence, one 50 amps OCD for the pump well and a 40 amps OCD for the storage area. There are 4/0 copper conductors (?) from the 100 amps OCD and from the neutral bar going inside a 2" conduit up to the wood post. Those 3 conductors after leaving the weatherhead are spliced to a 1/0 aluminum conductors and the neutral to a bare conductor (the one that hold the 2 hot conductors), they run to a second wood post about 40" from the residence, from there they go to a 2" conduit down to the subpanel. The bare (neutral) conductor goes directly to a one bar for the neutral and grounding conductors (together) and a conductor #10 connect this bar to an 1/2" grounding rod (?). This 100 amps subpanel with a 250' + 1/0 aluminum conductors supply power to an electric stove, electric water heater, electric dryer, 3 window air conditioners, 3 refrigerators, 2 freezers, a washing machine, a compresor, lighting, receptacles and a mother in law too.
In the main panel the neutral and grounding bars are separated (not bonded together). Is anything wrong with this situation?. I am not confortable with that. A contractor did this job last year without permit. I don't know if I am interpreting 250.32 wrong, but per 250.32, there shouldn't be a continuous metallic patch between the service panel and the second panel (according to the above situation), but there is a bare conductor, not insulated, going from the main to the sub. I will appreciate any recommendation about the above. This property is located 5 hours round trip and partially in a dirty road and it is not easy going there. I recommended to do a new drop and install a separated service. Thanks, Louis

I'm not sure if we can help you. We don't allow DIYers here, but you have some knowledge of the NEC, too much but not enough.
I'll close this post and if you want PM me with more detals on what type of contractor you are.
