I ran into a contractor that buys his EMT from 2 different suppliers. One for bending and one for straight runs, he says the one EMT is cheaper but it kinks when bent. Anyone else have this issue?

For years we have had an issue with bending 2" EMT. We tried different benders and still had a problem. I would believe that some EMT is better than other brands. We also had some issues with 4" EMT where the tubing actually split open during bending.

Had one big job where a whole 100-stick pallet of 1.5" had to be tossed because it wouldn't bend without rippling. GF just shrugged. Big job.

I’ve recently been bending a bunch of 3/4” for a particular job and found that the EMT from one supplier is totally fine, and the EMT from the other supplier will ripple bending 30’s no matter what I do. There is a noticeable difference in quality of bends. I don’t get a say in who this stuff comes from so I’ve just been dealing with it. I’m pretty sure my boss would just say I was crazy and it’s all the same.

I remember some pipe that would never thread correctly, same thing. We tried all sorts of different threaders, hand, electric hand held and table top Rigid, would always rip off threads. Old recycled stuff threaded like butter on the same machines.

How this for quality control? 4" EMT using the same bender that bent hundreds of bends with no issues.

And the wholesale houses that I dealt with did not specify the EMT mfg, it was a commodity item
