Does anyone recall a requirement for a light above or adjacent to a rooftop HVAC unit? I know of the requirement for a GFCI receptacle within 25' of the unit but I seem to recall a requirement for a luminare as well. This may have been several code cycles ago. I see many rooftop units with lights mounted above them but I can't find it as a requirement.

To the best of my knowledge there has never been such a requirement for lighting adjacent to rooftop equipment. :D

Re: Luminare above rooftop HVAC Equipment

While not code required, the best solution is to install an array of 1500 watt metal halide stadium luminaries at each corner of the building to properly illuminate the HVAC units. These also allow emergency roof repairs to be done safely at night.

That's funny. I never remember while working for a hvac contractor repairing anything at night on a roof.
This is not code and probably never will be. I have seen lots of buildings with a floods mounted to each unit, what a waste of time and material.
