Silence then "You've got to be sh... me. I'll ...

Sounds of motors starting...

He took it well but you could hear the frustration.

If you called your attorney on the phone and asked him a question, how many 10ths of an hour would he have charged you? No such thing as a free phone call with them?

Got a call once from a local machine shop they had a Lathe that would not start. I talk to the machinist and he tells me that the day before during a thunder storm they lost power to the whole building for about an hour. They were not able to start the Lathe since. I asked if they had drawings and a manual for the machine and they did. I started to read the manual starting procedure and the one sentence stated to make sure the transmission is in Neutral. I asked the machinist to show me where the transmission gear lever was and it was in the forward position. ( Limit switch will not allow motor to start unless in Neutral ) I put the lever in Neutral, pushed the start button and the Lathe started. Lathe was running when they lost power and was in gear. Unfortunately for the machinist his co workers were standing around watching and listening. I'm sure he still hears about it a year later.

Good for you!
A wise electrician once said "its always an electrical problem", meaning its rarely an electrical problem.

Back in 1980 I did some elec. sales, you could buy, ship, GE wire cheaper than the different divisions could from the mothership; sold a big reel ~10' tall of wire to them got the P.O. It was for $1,000,000.00 I called the guy and asked if I should deposit it for 30 days or would he like it back! "Please send it back marked personal confidential !".
Turned into a good customer.

Oh E !

Oh E !

Yeah, there are many stories by many people out there..... proves we are all human.
With the TELCO out here the power tech requires an invoice from us (minimum billing) to officially document the incident.
In our community we call it OE............Operator Error :D

After a while the responses become 2nd nature, pull out the stops, reset the gfci's, try all the breakers,,,,etc ~RJ~

I did computer field service in a previous lifetime. We often wrote down "pebchak": Problem exists between chair & keyboard.

We used pebkach instead.

Old Digital Equipment Corporation field service engineer joke:

Q: How many DEC FSEs does it take to change a flat tire?

A: Five. That's four to lift up the car and one to swap tires till he finds the one that's flat.
