On a recent job, I was installing the main bonding jumper between the neutral bar and the enclosure. The JM I was working with told me I did not need that as the neutral was connected to the ground at the transformer. I believe he is wrong, and what can happen if that jumper is not installed? Thanks for any info.

Re: Main Bonding Jumper

Not enough info to go on here.

Is it the main bonding jumper at a service panel?

If yes than you need the bond even though the power company's transformer is also bonded.

If you are taking about an SDS, as in a 480 volt delta to 208Y/120 transformer it is a different story.

The code allows the bond at the transformer or at the first disconnecting means or both if there are no metallic paths between the transformer and the first disconnect.

Give us more details and we can provide a better answer.

Re: Main Bonding Jumper

Thanks Bob, and yes it is the main bonding jumper at the service equipment. To be honest, I do not know what the voltages where, but I suspect it was 13.8 to 208Y/120.
