Main Circuit Breaker

A building I do work in just had all the old panels replaced with new panels. Some of the old panels had a TAP from the lugs to a circuit breaker cut out, that was feeding a panel in a another room. This tap now has its OWN CIRCUIT BREAKER in the new panel. The question is does that circuit breaker cut out need to be taken out or can it stay? If it stays there will be 2 circuit breakers in series that are the same Amps, but not the same RMS. Most breakers are 3 phase 100 Amps or less, and all new panels are 225A M.L.O. Any code reference is appreciated.

Re: Main Circuit Breaker

It is OK to have two breakers in series. Sometimes I put two in series just to have disconnects in two different places. (For example, a panel in the basement feeds a panel on the top floor.)

I don't know what you mean by "not the same RMS".

Kiss, did you mean AIC?

Re: Main Circuit Breaker

On the new C/B there is a RMS rating like 10,000.

And I dont know what AIC is ?

Re: Main Circuit Breaker

AIC is Ampere Interrupting Capacity or something of that sort. I believe AIC means the same thing as RMS in principle. It is the maximum amperage the breaker can operate without failing.
