My main panel feeds a sub-panel in a detached garage. The feed is 3 gauge wire and is run underground in conduit (< 300 feet).
The main panel has an 80 amp breaker feeding the sub-panel, but the sub-panel has a 70 amp breaker on the feed. Is there any reason the sub-panel must have a lower amp breaker? Can the sub-panel have an 80 amp breaker, matching the breaker on the main panel?
