Thats a lot of great information and yes I am in a 90 year old building. Since I am drawing little current in my mastering room , can you recommend a isolation transformer with 240 input (2 120v's) and single phase output

Yep, an isolation transformer for just the audio circuits and wired as a Separately Derived System would be great.
A local industrial electrician might know where to get a surplus transformer. After all you are in N.Y. City.

all the info that the electrician and you need.

So called isolation transformers are not anything really special. Basically all transformers are isolated input to output except for auto transformers.

If you want you could buy what is called a shielded transformer. They cost a bit more but it might make you feel better about it.

Your electrician can select the right size for your needs.

Actually an industrial control transformer will do the job. (with correct voltages of course)
It's the wiring as a Separately Derived System that is important.
That way the Safety Ground (EGC) to Neutral run is very short.

Great stuff. Thanks. I think I am going to use batteries.. any suggestions to were I can get a system ? I only need 15 amps max, but I draw like 2 amperes normally. In other words is there a ac system that stores ac voltage and current in a battery system, that gets recharging from the AC mains?
