Many failures with these adjustable mud rings staying put at their adjusted depth.
The one in the picture shows how someone attempted to give the ring more strength. I call it the Saber-tooth repair,

Maybe it wasn't the ring that failed but the lack of a far side support for the box the adjustable ring was fastened to.

Nail on boxes become screw on boxes pretty easy!
I've never used that brand box, what is the clamping mechanism to keep it at the desired depth? The device cover?

There is a screw on the inside of the mudring that is about an #8 corser thread than machine. They actually work good till someone does something mean because they don't have a screwdriver with them to adjust them.
