Brag "I am a master na-na-na-na" and a few other more important issues that may vary from local to local, like start an electrical contracting business.

In Va., a contractor (always a company, never an individual, but it can be a sole proprieter), must employ at least one Master in the trade.

As a Master, if you don't want to go into business for yourself, you can be that guy who enables the company to perform those services.

generally speaking a master/journeyman card is not a license, its a certification. A license usually is issued by the state allowing you to contract.
Well at least here in SC the term "Licensed Electrician" means you have either a mechanical contractor or builders license. Holding "master certification" is just a pre-requisite........maybe different in other states, check with yours.

John:

When I got my first license I did it as others were contemplating JW cards I was hoping it would get me bigger bucks and it helped.

I didn't get the bucks, just more responsibility....

To add: A Master is allowed to do engineering and drawings on certain-sized and types of buildings. I've done two in buildings that had one floor with a couple of apartments above one or two commercial levels.

Sounds like an assistant manager's position.

Not picking on any of the above posters but their answers do not mean a thing unless they are from Wisconsin.

The OP.

There is nothing that is national about electrician licensing or certification. Not a bit.

In Idaho, until a few years ago, you had the privilege of paying more than a journeyman's lisence to renew it. Now it's the same at least. Other than that, I make apprentices call me Master....

Edited; Ooops, just saw the mod's remark. Please disregard my post....
