Re: masters license

The States of California, Oregon, and Washington, do not have a classification of Master.

Re: masters license

Frank,

I do, Suffolk County, New York.
There is no State Licensing in New York, and only one classification for Electricians that I know of - Master. There is also a 'Restricted Electrical' License for HVAC guys and Boiler Mechanics etc. that allows them to work within their equipment.

Re: masters license

master electrician in the state of VA is an individual who has taken the neccessary steps to meet the requirements that the state has set forth. this person can pull permits and bid on jobs, own companies. in the state of VA, it is NOT required for a certified electrician to work in the field and to run jobs, however, there must be a master electrician in the shop who is responsible for those who do not have certification. that's why this state is so screwed up, we still are in the 1996 code. they have not ratified the 1999 or 2002. so we are a little behind everyone else. they honor the 1996, and teach the 2002. ever try to find a 1996 code book?

Re: masters license

N.C. has three state licenses. Limited, intermediate, and unlimited. There are LV classifications also. I hold an unlimited.

Re: masters license

Frank, I hold a few:
Delaware: Limited(residential) and General(anything). I took both. Once you get the General, you don't need the Limited anymore.
Maryland Statewide: Master. Also, each County has their own licensing requirements. I have 2.
Pennsylvania doesn't have a Statewide License, but certain cities and townships have requirements. I have a few in and around Philly.

Re: masters license

I do. In NH you have to hold an apprentice ID then a journeyman then masters. You need a masters to get permits etc. A journeyman has to work under a master and can't do jobs on his own.

Re: masters license

I am a licensed master at the local county level, a Florida State Registered Electrical Contractor #ER0015442, and Florida ECLB continuing education provider. There is no apprentice licensing in Florida that I am aware of, the Journeyman can be obtained through exam at local couty level. :D

Re: masters license

I have a E-1 Unlimited Contractor license in CT. It takes about 4 to 5 years of school and work as an apprentice before you can take the test to become a journeyman. Then wate 2 years before you can take your Masters exam along with a busness and law exam.

Re: masters license

Washington state now has a masters license. This license combines the general journeyman and administrator license.

Re: masters license

This will surprise some, I did in Indianapolis (no state license yet), but I let it go since I didn't use it after 1980 (yes, I know, I'm turning into an old f - - t). I had an electrical contracting business until I went through a divorce and decided it was not worth it to work a 40 hour job and run a business in the evenings and weekends. ;)

Re: masters license

Indiana doesn't have state-wide licensing but I took the Block Master's Exam when it was made available through my local city building commisioner's office a few years ago. I am licensed here as a Master Electrician by virtue of the exam. The Block test was what was required by surrounding counties at the time and they reciprocated.

Master's license in the State of Michigan, Class A Contractor's in Mishawaka, Indiana, Class A Contractor's license in St. Joseph County/City of South Bend, Indiana (roughly the equivalent of a master's license in these jurisdictions since no state licensing exists in Indiana)

Re: masters license

Hey Charlie did you lose 1/2 your master's license to your ex in your divorce?
Ouch, hey, this is Monday morning . . . I didn't think we were supposed to get that much abuse this early :p

By the way, Indianapolis uses the Block exam . . . or at least they used to use it.
