max amps

its a vaugue question, but max amp will be determined by your main service switchgear. you can have a 5000 amp switchgear at 277/480. keep in mind that would be dealing with fault current well over 100K amp. in the end the poco is the one that call the shot as to how large a service you get at that voltage.

. . . amps . . . per phase. . . .
It would be helpful if you would break the habit of using those words in that sequence. Amps do not happen "per phase." The word "per" in the phrase "per phase" implies that a multiplication problem is involved in the discussion. For example, it implies, incorrectly, that if you had 100 amps per phase, the total amps would be 300. That is not the way amps add to amps. If each phase of a 3 phase system carried a load of 100 amps, then the "system current" is 100 amps, not 300.
