I though I read somewhere there was an 8' max height on exterior lighting for residential. Is this true or false. I could not find it in sec 410 anywhere unless I missed it. I thought this was in effect so lights would not bother neighbors. Thanks in advance Don c.

There is no such code in the NEC. There could be some homeowners ordinance in some developments that may have this rule-- just not the nec

Thanks for the info and the quick reply. I have taken several code classes and local seminars and I thought I had hear this. Maybe it is going to be in the new code.

Seems I recall a minimum height for fixtures......sorry.... luminaires..... based on voltage, but I can't find it, even going back to '96.

There are a lot of local building codes that can limit this, in two near by towns they have an ordinance that an outside fixture can only light up wards or downward but not outward, so if you are looking at the fixture you are not looking into the light. I guess to many people were putting up mercury vapor lights.

I have seen local codes like this titled, " dark sky ordinance"

pssst...check 225.7 ['05]

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but 225.7(C) brings up a question:

225.7(C) tells me I can install fixtures w/ 277V supply's if they are more than 3' from windows, platforms, fire escapes, etc.

So where does it say I can't install a 277V fixture withing 3' of a window? 225.7 doesn't prohibit anything,

It seems to me that 210.6 says I can install a 277 volt fixture with no limitations on the location???
