max ocp size allowed in 200 amp panel?

I can't locate the article that limits the size of a breaker (Not Main Breaker!) installed in a 200 amp Dwelling panel. The breaker would be feeding a sub-panel. Could someone please tell me where the article is in the 2002?!? I know it's in there somewhere!

check with the panel company to see what they make
i know that is not what you wanted to here , but they do limit the size. PEACE GEO

I don't think there is such a rule. It is certainly not where I would put such a rule, in 408.

Really, I could have sworn there was something about the largest breaker must not exceed a certain % of the Main breaker?
hmmm, no wonder I can't find it!

Look at the label on the Panelboard.
I've seen max size breaker listed there.

Are you certain that you are not confusing the concept of "overcurrent protection" with "maximum load"? For example, if all of the load on a circuit is "continuous," meaning it will run for more than 3 hours at a time, then that load should not exceed 80% of the breaker's rating.

I believe the limit is more implicit. Is there a max current rating for each bus stab marked in the panelboard? If so, that is your breaker limit. How much bending space do you have? This will limit the wire size which ends up limiting OCPD. You'll be hard pressed to use #1/0 or larger in most dwelling panels, and even #2 can be tight in many breaker positions.
