Unfair? Why, there is not so much as a penny difference in price.

Anyway they want me to remove ALL the MCap.
The Engineer said, Yes its Ul listed, Yes it meets NEC. BUT
and I QUOTE, WE DONT LIKE CHANGE, MCAP WILL FAIL AFTER YEARS OF USE EITHER BY WATER CORROSION OR THE WIRE COMING LOOSE FROM THE CONNECTOR.

That reason Piss's me off so bad I could Kill something.
It would have been ok if he said no green ground, because its in the spec that way. But not that Bull Crap one sided, Ignorant reason. I guess this guy knows more then the people at the UL labs.

OK deep breath, I going down Monday with a couple of my guys to get that swapped out by the end of the day, should only take 5-6 hours
did you ask them how water will get into the wall and corrode the connector or how it will come loose after years? what about all that BX installed in the 50s thats still inuse today has any of the properly installed BX ever came loose out of nowhere? that engineer just wants it his way and thats all

And that is well within the EEs right as the contract included specifications.

I do feel bad that Ken is going to have to eat this but I have to follow specs as well. It is as much a part of the job as the NEC

According to Southwires website you Might save 2 minutes per outlet (or light)

So this job has, (aprox)
30 receptacles
3 switches
70 lights

aprox total= 103

103 x 2 min. = a savings of 206 minutes or 3 hours 43 minutes

round it up to 4 hours of savings

4 hours x $50.00 (labor Rate) =$200. savings

$200.00 savings does not give anyone an unfair advantage. $2000.00 savings, yes. Not $200.00
There are way to many variables involved in bid pricing between subs.
such as:
Labor rate differances
Material prices vary Allot depending on who you buy from
Over head costs.

In the retail world $200.00 is $2.00

O ya, wire nuts and pigs tails, whats that cost, maybe $30.

Ken

OK Ken, keep spinning it, you chose MCap to save yourself money.

You took a shot and got bagged, as I said I do feel for you but it is what it is and no amount of trying to justify will change it.

I notice that you have totally ignored the copper conductor specification.

Next thing we know, you'll be telling us we must abide by the NEC, even if we don't agree with it.

I assume that Ken can take straight talk he is after all a business owner.

I imagine that depends on Ken. But, if you were my employee talking like that, two things would be bagged this week.

The closest analogy I can get to this is you order and pay for a Lincoln and the dealer delivers a Ford instead. Dealer says, it is the same chassis, same color, same engine and transmission, just a few sheet metal parts are different. It meets all the vehicle codes, so no reason you should not accept it.
