Re: MC cable & 517.13(A)

There is HCFC which is an AC.

Go to this AFC page and scroll down to HCFC.

There are types of MC that would meet the requirement but these not common.

Tom Baker posted an article a while back on a HG MC that is not yet available.

You Can Use The Type AC Cable For Normal Power Circuits But Emergency Circuits Must Be In Hard Conduit Or MI Cable (517.30C3)

Using some now in exam rooms for a doctors office. It's green ,other than that it has extra ground wire that you wrap around the mc jacket.BasicallY run same as any MC.

Re: MC cable & 517.13(A)

Thanks for the help. I did check out the AFC site & I had a local supply house check for me. Can I safely say that MC cable with a sheath that is approved as a grounding return path is rare?

I would say that is a safe statement. ;)

Do take note of Ed's post.

Jim have you ever used AC? The cable you are talking about is not MC with a bare conductor, but is HCFC which is an AC hibrid cable.

This HCFC is manufactured for one purpose, which is to meet the requirements of 517.13(A)

Jim,
MC, even if it has two internal grounds, is not permitted for this application if the jacket is of the interlocking armor type.

Larry, here is the whole article. New products

This is the article I mentioned Tom Baker posted a while back.

Do you know if this even on the market yet?

I would say it would be hard to get if it is.

What Jim describes is HCFC.
