I've seen it directly buried on a couple of jobs, like to feed a detarched garage, yard lighting, etc., as if it was UF.

I did find this on the new MC. (notice manufature says "rated for 90?C dry locations")

I am still looking for info on what I would call "typical" MC (found it,,,PDF file,,, http://www.alliedeg.com/pdf/afc_mcsteel_0704.pdf )

If it lists dry only , that means NOT wet, right?

I received the response from the manufacturer in regards to MC installation.

It as never intended by UL or the NEC that the metallic armor of MC cables be exposed to long term exposure to wet conditions. That is why the new code makes it clear in NEC 330.

I have never is this tread disputed that things have changed with the 2008.:smile:

I have very carefully referenced both the 2002 and 2005 NEC (It may go back further, I have not checked.)

MC cables are not permitted in wet locations with the release of the 2008 NEC.
It was never intended by UL or the NEC that the metallic armor of MC cables be exposed to long term exposure to wet conditions. That is why the new code makes it clear in NEC 330.

Thats is very hard to believe as that is not what the code allowed for at least 6 years.

Any area that is still under 2002 or 2005 without amendment must accept standard MC in wet locations as that is what the NEC says. Even the manufacturer admits that previous code cycles allowed it.
