Tie wire is not required on lights if the grid is rated for support (just flip out the clips on the fixture), unless you have extra rules.

Roll that up in your license and smoke it.

It must be nice not to deal with superfluous rules and conflicting, confusing AHJ requirements. :)

Has nothing to do with that.

Tie wire is not prohibited for MC support, no matter where your license if from, unless you have more specific rules.

The AHJ's have been making us use cieling grid wire. Two cadi cornered on each light. For years they have made us do this.
I agree with you its an over kill. Maybe it has some thing to do with the Hurricanes we get.
I have seen pictures of entire cielings that fell. But the lights are still up.

Speaking of PITA....just where are you located at?
[might to update your profile?]

Chapel Hill , Orange County and surrounding counties

Some times will have a electric contractor come in to wire a house.
They may have been doing it for years. But, we have one inspector. That is very strict on the grd wires being long enough. The ones that after you twist them you cut them off and put the sta-con on. He will turn it down until every ground wire is the appropriate lenth. Some times they have to re pull lots of wires to comply.
Where in other juisdiction they may have never had a problem with it.

Then some jurisdictions require a bussiness license on file. Others don't:confused:

Sorry for the late update, but the "dissimilar metals" oddity is apparently a local amendment here in Mecklenburg County....which explains why it's nowhere to be found in the NEC.
