Can MC cable 12/3 be run exposed ?????? The structure is wood contruction and will be used as a carpenter shop. The building is 240 sq. ft.

Look at article 330. In 330.10(A) GENERAL USES it states that MC shall be permitted to be (4) Exposed or Concealed. However 330.12 states that it may not be installed "where subject to physical damage". The AHJ will need to determine if the installation exposes the cable to physical damage. Nothing is easy....

I would say that you can.

330.10 (Uses not permitted) is not clear (to me) because it says that MC cannot be used where "exposed to the following destructive corrosive conditions", and then goes on to list "where exposed to physical damage" as one of the conditions.

I understand that to mean .... as long as it's not subject to corrosive damage, it can be run exposed.

Just a opinion
Hope this helps

I would think if it was ran for lighting it would not be a problem. If we're talking branchline circuts, then I would have to say no because it would be subject to physical damage.
