mc jacket as a ground?

Why would you want to? The Al. bond strip #10 is in contact with the clad's entire length and simply cut it off after roto stripping the clad then install the listed connector.....no termination of bond strip required.

Because the manufacturer took the trouble to offer this as an instalation method. An electrician has an obligation to learn the proper installation. You know like the case of the grounds all disconnecting mysteriously except for 1 ground rod which is not enough to trip the ocpd. This comes up a lot here.

Instead of the term ground, which now means "the earth" I prefer the use of 'conductive path".

Bravo to you Tom, I REALLY am grateful for this site because it is full of professionals that cling to the proper nomenclature derived from the NEC.

It is just as hard to cling to proper terminology as it is to not be influenced by the people on the job who don't cling to proper English.

"hey man...what dat is?"

You as an inspector should be able to identify a code compliant instalation. Reason #2

I was told that I can use the jacket of an MC wire for a safty ground. ---
250.118.10 (2005) gives you the criteria for using MC cable sheath as a grounding conductor.

Type MC-HL has been around for quite a while. It meets 250.118.10.b. however it likely is mostly used for industrial.

I'm not familiar with MC-AP. But, I'd guess it meets 250.118.10.a.

I'd suggest checking your cable model mumber on the mfg website and see if it meets NEC criteria for use as an EGC - anything else is an assumptive guess.

And yes I do! Also, one the posts here as in "the more I read it" almost seems as I was called an idiot (I made a joke of it but not sure how to take that yet) thats not good! Southwire puts out MCap and the installer follows the instructions and I see they did good enough for me. If they want to terminate the bond strip in a box fine so be it and then will follow procedures on terminating Al conductors. If one is going to go thru all that then don't use the darn product go back to AFC MC.

thanks

thanks

thank you all for helping me with this, i have learned alot more than just the answer to the question. thanks again.
