I've been told by my employer that it is ok to cable tie MC to EMT. I could not find any specific info regarding that practice but have seen it done often. I thought you can not tie anything to emt. What is the exact ruling on this? Is the answer in article 300?

300.11(B) Raceways Used as Means of Support. Raceways shall only be used as a means of support for other raceways, cables, or nonelectric equipment under the following conditions:
(1) Where the raceway or means of support is identified for the purpose; or
(2) Where the raceway contains power supply conductors for electrically controlled equipment and is used to support Class 2 circuit conductors or cables that are solely for the purpose of connection to the equipment control circuits; or
(3) Where the raceway is used to support boxes or conduit bodies in accordance with 314.23 or to support luminaires (fixtures) in accordance with 410.16(F)

MAK,

I think I understand what you are trying to say.

One method would be to take an EMT connector on the end of a piece of EMT, connect it to a properly sized rigid coupling on one side, on the other side you would have a MC connecter (type with threads) and connect them together. I have seen this done at small motor terminations . I always wander why not use FMC with an adapter instead.

Though there are several methods to join the wiring methods together, I would have to say it is a code violation if you do not use fittings listed and identified for this use. Review 330.40 and 358.6.

hope this helped

I believe dcl34769 has pointed you to the appropriate code requirement

TTBOMK, you can only use EMT for support is when it does not and will never contain any conductors, with the exception being 300.11(B)(2).
