Typical UPS sealed lead acid batteries will only vent hydrogen (and oxygen) under abnormal conditions. Does that threat require ventilation and/or a hydrogen sensor? Probably if you want to avoid the restrictions that classification imposes on the rest of the equipment.
But it does not take much ventilation to avoid hydrogen accumulation.
