will a simpson multimeter get damaged if you measure voltage across a breaker on the mv settig?

im just worried i will break the meter if i hook it up to across a 120v breaker

i guess im just crazy or something. if i measure 120v i will blow the meter but if i measure across a breaker each side is the same potential pretty much and will measure millivolts

Start with the above-the-line-voltage setting on the meter, and lower the range one click at a time as far as you dare.

As for actual damage, you'd have to see if maximum voltage inputs are specified in the meter's documentation.

thats a good point too. ill probably stick with the fluke 117 for fOP tests. but i will experiment with caution
