Megging Motors

In the Navy, we had very stringent schedules for Preventive Maintenance which included megging and trending of motors, generators, etc.. I tried to incorporate a program as a plant maintenance manager but was always fighting production schedules for equipment downtime. A properly run program saves time, money and can save lives.

Yeah but some of those PM's were a little overboard, just to keep us busy I think, do you really need to PM a MG set every 2 weeks? :)

Navy stuff aside I agree with you 100%, and so does NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and any other standard out there. Uptime magazine has some great research and reports on the benifits of a RCM program.

Here is the ANSI/NETA recommended maintenence intervals for different equipment. Free download www.netaworld.org

What Navy were you in?:D I was a ETN, what did they call that, POMCEE or something like that, can't remember. Anyway, it was gun decked or anything that looked good was written down.
