Metal Boxes and Wireways with no splices

Is it required by the NEC to ground metal boxes and metal wireways with an EGC if all the conductors pass through such enclosures unspliced? I thought I remembered a few years back where the NEC made this change, but I'm not finding it.

No. If there are no joints, the EGC may also pass through without terminating to the enclosure.

Thank you. I've always installed an EGC in conduits on my own jobs, but I have worked for a few guys over the years that used the metal conduit as an EGC. I remember having to use a "stinger" from device grounding terminals to the boxes.
