What is the formula for finding amp draw by meter rotation? rpm x multiplier divided by volts? I need to get close amp draw on building but due to high flow of customers and location of panel owner doesn't want me blocking isle while I read with clamp meter

I may be way out in right feild on this, but how does this sound?

Meters are reading Kilowatts, right? Read the meter, come back in an hour, read it again and then bust out Ohm's law. If you don't have an hour, read it for 15 minutes and multiply it by four.

It would be close.But amps times volts doesn't equal watts ,it equals volt amps.
What does the customer really want ? peak amps or average

If you are trying to determine kw so you can caculate the amp load then use the following:
r = no. of revolutions in a given amt of time.
eg. 100 rev in 10 sec.
Kh = meter constant on the meter
M = mutiplier
If there are no ct's or pt's M = 1
If you have ct's eg. 400/5 M = 80
If you have ct' and pt's eg
ct's 400/5 and pt's 480/120 the constants are
ct = 80 and pt = 4. The M then = 80 x 4 = 320

KW = 3.6 x r x Kh xM/(number of seconds)
This gives kw and not kva.

i don't think you could get a good reading in an hour unless the meter is giving a digital readout.
The new one's are digital.

Thanks Bob. Like I wrote, I wasn't sure if I was in right feild on the issue. That was one of my concerns. Thanks

We are starting to see these new digital meters am told they can read them from the street.Cost is keeping them from all being changed.What next ? will they read them from the office ?There goes another easy job.
