Hey all.
looking for a solution on an upcoming job. We are installing a Generac generator w/200A ATS. Currently all the branch circuits are on the main panel distribution. We’re doing a service change. Currently I am unaware of any meter/main combo w/distribution that has the ability to have the main breaker feed the ATS and the load side of the ATS to feed the distribution.

Usually we would just take the loads and add them to a new "critical" loads panel of sorts with that panel being fed from the load of the ATS. however this job is tricky and would be very difficult to add a separate load center. I know we've all seen those 'awesome' generator installs where the main panel has been modified... I definitely wont be doing that...
So I am hoping someone knows of a solution.

Thanks for your help!

One possibility that is itself a dead end (not quite what you need and discontinued) but might point you to a solution.

My Father Out Law had a Gentran Ovation series ATS. http://nooutage.com/ats1001.htm

You know the manual breaker interlock units that you can install on a standard panel? This was based on that; a standard main breaker interlocked with the generator breaker on the bus. But instead of having to manually toggle the breakers, there was a motor off to the side that would switch them, and a controller sitting on the bus (taking up a double pole space) which ran the whole operation.

The unit was based on a standard Siemens bus, and in theory could be used with a standard meter main...but as I said, discontinued. Perhaps someone makes a similar setup which could be installed in an available meter main that would work for you.

I should note that the Ovation unit never really worked well for my FOL; but this was more because he had a knack for buying 'discount' generators that were impossible to interface with the controls for anything.

So apparently Siemens makes 'generator ready' load centers, essentially a 'split bus' panel with space in the middle for a breaker based automatic transfer switch.

Of interest in the above link is the video giving the name of the product manager for 'Load Centers and Meter Combos'. Perhaps worth a call?

That looks like exactly what I was looking for.
now I only hope they have a configuration that can incorporate a meter as well.
this would be the best case scenario as I don’t have room to do a meter socket and a separate load center.
Thank you all for your help this far!

Did you ever find a solution for this problem? I’m in the same boat and looking for a solution
