Metric Light Fixture Screws Wall Sconces

Agreed, A bar/backplate needs to be provided and screws to assemble the fixture to the bar/backplate come with the fixture.

So, I don't know what the OP is talking about.

The manufactures provide screws to mount the bar to the ceiling/wall box. The screws they provide are are metric and not the correct size. They either need to provide the correct size or don't provide them at all.

Understood. Throw them away and use the existing 8-32 box screws or new ones.

Many of the wall sconces are being provided with metric screws. Since they have matching finish lock nuts rethreading is time consuming and plus the fixture won't match the thumb screws.

Hmmm. Maybe he's saying that the metric screws supplied don't match the threaded holes in the bar or plate provided with the fixture?

These are all 8-32, never saw metric. If this is the problem the manufacturer needs to do something different.

This common issue with the HO buying off Amazon then want you to install. Most I've seen have been unlisted, or forged listing. Even had some that come in that the common screw base bulbs don't fit, and at closer look the bases are marked 230V.

I use 8-32's for mounting bracket to box but many of the wall sconces come with decorative metric nuts that match the exterior finish of the fixture.
The supplied metric screws are not always long enough to attach the decorative metric nuts. I was curious what the thread pitch and metric size usually comes with these online metric fixtures or at least the most commonly used.

Sounds like your boxes are recessed in the wall a little and you are tightening the mounting plate or bar tight down on the box.

The way I do it is to not tighten the 8-32s down all the way, so that you can pull the plate out even with the surface of the wall (or as much as you need to). That way the supplied screws should make it.

Alternately, you can stack small washers on the box screws to hold the plate out.

I wish they made shims for this like they make for receptacles in cutouts where the ears don't rest on the sheetrock.

Interesting. You probably know that I'm British and ancient. We used to use Imperial units. For light fixtures we use BA screws - British Association. I'm sure we use these for metric these days. That said our lamp fittings always come with screws fitted so the actual screw thread is unimportant.
