Howdy folks,

I'm looking at taking my Masters test in either Feb. or May. and had a few quick questions.

I've heard about the Uniform Residential Code. ( or something like that ) Should I know anything about it? I'm a factory rat so I've only heard about it, never played with it.

I've also heard it's worth the trip to take the test in Escanaba? Any opinions on that one? It looks like I'd have to wait to test, and that's quite a drive for me.

I've been skimming the '05 book in my free time, took the update (and paid attention), and will probably attend a cram session.
However, Any other pointers are appreciated.

Doug S.

Thats the MRC, Michigan Residential code. Basically a carbon copy of the nec in a limited to residential way. No you don't need it unless you are actually doing houses. Stick with the '05 NEC and look at the administrative rules and you'll be fine. I don't know if Okemos is any different than anywhere else, in fact, it's probably the same (agency) that does the testing statewide.

I passed!

I passed!

Thanks to those of you who post here, it helped. ( Believe it or not )

The score wasn't anything to be too proud of, but nothing to be ashamed of!
( Being that I passed. )

For those of you looking to take the Michigan Master's Exam I would suggest you:

KNOW your motor calcs
KNOW your feeder calcs.
Review everything else...

They supply a copy of Part 8 and PA-217, but I might suggest you review them online first.

My study materials were an '05 code book, the above mentioned links, Mr. Holts "Electrical NEC Exam Prep" with the a simulated exam book, and of course the answer book.
( Any one want them a little cheaper? ) =)

TABS TABS TABS! You need to be able to reference information quickly through your NEC. You need Tabs for each chapter. Good Luck!

How could I forgot?

Yep, SORRY didn't mention those. I had 'm, I used 'm. Man did I use 'm. ( Remember they can't be homemade, you've gotta spend the $$$ in MI )

The extra pencils also got used.

Left 'm in 310, 250, and any where I was gonna jump right back to!

do you still have the prep exam stuff?

No, a co-worker snatched them up.

I'm not sure when he plans on testing, but I'll mention that there may be some interested parties here when he get's done with it.

FWIW I think what I bought set me back about $80.00, delivered to my door step. I know that classes have some benefits over study material, but at that price I thought it was a deal. PLUS if you don't pass you still have it. ;)
