Greetings,
With all of the activities around solar and wind generation, etc. what does everyone think about a forum heading for this topic? Your thoughts??
Respectfully, E/M.

What gets me, is why they don't consider hydroelectric "Clean Energy". I know it's not available to everybody, but it's a lot cheaper than solar and wind and 100 times more efficent.

Hi Hillbilly,
I think what may be behind lack of attention to hdyroelectric in this country probably is that all the prime sites have already been developed and we are at a point of diminishing return for it. Also, I have seen some resistance to them based on the disruption of wild life migration, etc. and also based on the danger of breakage of a really large dam and harm to communities laying downstream from it. Personally I like large hydroelectric projects, I think they make a lot of sense. E/M

Hydro does have its costs. Anyway, I'm with you: it is a clean energy in as many ways as other so-called clean energy systems are. And what about nukes? I think we should have a lot more of those, too.

Anyway, I'm for a separate section of the forum for such a discussion; and for the MV section, too.

Is it correct that in the ny - nj areas that the sun is only useful for a few hours a day in solar energy? We have at the plant solar enegy and i'm not sure of its efficiency reason being #1 there is not any maintenance in the panels , I believe they must be keept clean. We have a 2000amp service with 3 building with a totel of about 80 panels on the roof , How much energy can they produce to off set the cost of instillation of the job? I see a few disconnects for 30amps maybe one alittle larger, this dosen't seem to be cost effective. there are inverters and the system has been installed for about 3 years. And from day one no one really knows anything about them. the system is surpose to sell the power back to the power co. Any info about this . Thanks
