Min height of garage outlets?

But you need total wall height of 96" for that to come out right either way....

I may not have been clear in what was being cut because the ceiling height is irrelevant. The cutout (for the electrical box) will be in the top of the bottom sheet, or the bottom of the next sheet up. The first layer of sheetrock starts at the floor (or footer riser).

Most hang top sheet first, to get smaller gap at the ceiling/wall joint, any height left over (typically about a 1/2" is left at bottom and gets covered by base trim, you don't want that extra 1/2" at the top. If you have 9 foot walls, they often use 4 1/2 foot wide drywall. Any other ceiling height not divisible by 4 feet gets you into middle area of sheet if you hang from top down.

Actually, the upper layer of horizontally-installed drywall is usually done first, as it's butted up against the ceiling drywall. Thus, the top or bottom of the boxes would end up at 48-1/2" or 48-5/8" down from the joists.

Here are a couple of jobs we did, including the drywall:

Job 1: Master bedroom/bathroom addition:

Job 2: Attic space den/bath finish:

And even if it is vertically installed, they lift it so it butts to ceiling - to lessen the gap that needs to be filled/taped in that corner.

Absolutely, but not mentioned because there would be no joint at 48" to discuss.
