Mini split

Need help figuring out what size wire and breaker I need for a mini split it says minimum breaker size is 20 and max 25. So not sure if I should do 10 gage wire on a 30 amp breaker. Also if someone could reference a code article that would be great think I’m just looking in the wrong area

Use a 25 amp breaker. A 20 May nuisance trip. The nameplate should tell you the minimum circuit ampacity. For example if it shows 19.9 amps MCA you could use #14 thhn or #12 nm cable.

It should say M(inimum) C(ircuit) A(mpacity) and M(aximum) O(vercurrent) P(rotection).

Size the wire by the former (#12) and the breaker by the latter (25a).

But if use a 25 amp breaker should I use #10nm since 12 is only rated for 20amps

True actually but can only be protected by 20amps unless on a motor load is that why I could get away with that?

Yes. Load has its own overload protection so your breaker only provides short-circuit protection.

The allowance is to permit short-term starting current.
