Minimum clearance for electrical equipments in terms of O&M

An operation and maintenance (O&M) manual is a valuable tool. It defines the requirements and procedures for the effective operation, maintenance, decommissioning and demolition of the building, and includes details of the building's construction, history and maintenance, instructions for its operation and maintenance, and guarantees and warranties.

Who should do this?

The owner/developer, the design team, the contractor and the property manager.

Clearance isn’t just a code requirement—it’s about safety and being able to actually work on the equipment. NEC 110.26 requires space for operation and maintenance, not just installation. If a technician can’t safely stand, open doors, or service the gear, the job wasn’t done right. Code is the minimum good design goes beyond it.
