For many years, Mitsubishi units required a separate 120 volt circuit to supply the fan coil units and the control was by two wire low voltage between the fan coil and the outdoor unit. Recently in the last two years the entire line of split systems has changed to using a three wire high voltage control from the outdoor unit to the inside fan coil, which is the scheme employed with most other popular Japanese manufacturers such as Fujitsu, and Sanyo. Our local inspectors always required a local disco for the fan coil units when the Mitsubishi models were installed, but not for the three wire controled units since they are fed off the outdoor units, which are usually wired with a lockable disco switch. The indoor fan coil units draw generally less than two amps current.
