Mixed up wiring for DC fuel pump

I just got my first 12V diesel heater and am relocating the fuel pump (pictured below). In the process, I clipped the two wires for the pump before I had them labeled properly. And because it's a cheap Chinese diesel heater, the wires are colored exactly the same, and I can't tell them apart.

1) Polarity wise, does it even matter that I may have mixed up the wires?

2) If so, how can I tell if I have the wires crossed when I hook it back up?

Thanks
