Working on a new Spray Booth with an adjacent mixing room. No direct access to booth from mixing room, door is over 3' from booth entrance. The mixing room has an intake/ exhaust system separate from the booth that runs continuously, by design, and pulls air from the space 12'' above the floor. The room can be used for both solvent and non-solvent based paints.
My question is what classification would this area be considered? It has direct access into the classified Major Repair Garage, so the first 18" above the floor would be Class 1, Div.1, but what about the area above 18'' off the floor? There needs to be 120v recept. outlets installed for the mixing equipment and a computer.
Thanks for any clarification......

We do suppression systems for such booths, and IIRC it's usually Class 1 Div II. In the normal course of operation, vapors are only occasionally present.
