Hi guys I’m new here and was looking to ask for some advice.
I just bought a property with a fairly new double wide already set and connected. It is wired very minimally and wrong as far as I know but here’s the current situation. The subdivision it is located in is considered rural in Texas with no zoning and we get power through a coop. The poco has our meters set at the street and that is all that is there so the current setup is a 4 wire feeder going straight to the 200 amp panel in the house with as far as I can see only one ground at the meter pedestal. I know I’ve seen and heard that the mobile home should be wired as a sub panel and not directly wired with no cutoff.
(Quick note) I spoke with poco today and they said they are aware now of the outdated and or wrong way of just setting meters out with no means of disconnect. They said they have plans to install updated meters with disconnects so at least when electrician are working in the neighborhood they can disconnect power without having to get the poco out.
I have future plans for a detached shop and some other outdoor lighting etc.
So here are my plans and questions.
I would like to install a main panel outside either on the side of the house or on a built pedestal and wire the mobile home from there with the option of adding a breaker outside to feed my shop in the future.
Would the best panel be one with the feed through lugs to still have 200 amps available at the panel in the house?
Also as I said as of now the only grounding is at the meter with four wires going straight to the home panel. So I should probably use my own grounding at the new main panel that will be installed and just use 3 wires coming from the meter?
Neutral and ground would be bonded at my new main panel right?
The run from there meter to where I would like my main panel is approximately 100ft. Currently has 4/0 Al ran for wire but doesn’t exit until about midway under the house which I will either have to dig up some of it or add about 30ft to go back towards where I want the panel to be.
4/0 Al is good here?
Thanks for any advice and pointers in advance. Still trying to figure out this situation.
