I have an electric rm with no room for expansion.In the room the ct section has been used as a feed through and individual tenants have their own breaker discos and meters located in this room.Would it be permissible to modify the bus detail in the existing ct section to take a new disconnect.Here's the hard part,would it be permissible to use a disconnect by a different manufacturer, as the existing fuse/breaker combo devices are no longer made.BTW there will be no more six switches.

I hate to say it, but I believe this is a case where 110.3(B) is applicable.

The use of parts from different manufacturers is all but immaterial. there are many independent equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that will build gear using mixed manufacturers.

Once you modify the gear, it is 'no longer the way it was built at the factory' and only the AHJ can approve it.

You can hire a company like UL to come out and field certify your modifications but it is still up to the AHJ to approve the installation.
