Now that the storm has taken all the poco men north, my customer want's to use a genset to temp power. I got an ice machine and a refrigerated shipping container. Ice machine 208 3ph (Min cir 65)(LRA 180). So that's 60 starting kw. The refrigerated shipping container is 480 (25a)and uses a step up tx. 2/1. at 208 we are 50 amps. I can't find any starting amps on the unit. So I use the multiplier for the ice machine 2.8 50*2.8 =140a =40kw to come up with the container. 100kw generator. Am I on the right track????

A 100kw generator with a 0.8pf will be a 125KVA rated machine. It will have 75KVAR rated for load. You can drop the pf for starting based on the generator reactive capability curve. The loads as they start, specifically the motors, will have low starting pf and the generator will need to be a able to provide the reactance to the load while maintaining your KW output.

Starting loads with local generators can be a complex issue, I would suggest contacting CAT or other local supplier. They can tell you exactly what size you need based on your loads and starting profile/sequence.
