I've been seeing more and more electrical work being done by HVAC crews---all having electrical violations above and beyond! I guess they are selling there non-skill to customers during their HVAC installs. The good thing: I inform the customer, and make more money.

I replaced the pedestal for a mobile home that was moved into a local park the other day. My worked passed but the inspector would not turn it loose until the HVAC was reconnected. The HVAC guy pulled the permit installed the circuit (yes this is common in my area they can wire the entire circuit for the units but cannot install the gfci next to it. Owner wanted me to do the gfci. I get to the park and the side is off of the unit right away I notice no equipment ground but it might be OK since he used sealtite with the bonding strip from the disconnect to the unit, I then notice carflex from the disconnect to the panel. I open the panel and sure enough no ground. The hvac guy shows up and asks about power so he can vacuum and charge the unit. I point out there is no ground from the panel to the unit his reply was "you grounded the trailer frame and I screwed my disconnect to it"
I wonder if I could make a similar deal as one I overheard from a bookie once when asked if he would loan someone some money his reply was "I promised the banks I wouldn't loan money if they promised not to take bets"
