Good morning,
While touring the big orange box store, I notice 200 amp panels 40 slots 40 breakers, next to it was a 200 amp, 30 slots and 40 breakers. Both items were the same price and size. Why would one choose one over the other. If you find this to be a stupid question please be kind and learn me. When do you make the decision to use tandem breakers?

because usually they're not the same price; at least in my area.

i pay a difference of $25 between 30 space and 40 space. i use the squareD, and their 30 and 40 space cabinets are definitely not the same size.

normally i use a 40 space on a 200A service; and i use two 30 space panels on a 400A service.

I prefer to go with full size whenever I can, but the 30/40 panel may have a smaller footprint.
