Here in my plant we have a monorail hoist (120V) plugged into a receptacle circuit. I thought a motor had to be on a seperate circuit or on a motor circuit and couldn't be on with general receptacles. Isn't that true?? Where could I find this in the N.E.C. to substantiate my arguement?? Thanks again for your help.

Well, If it has a plug and cord assembly, then you can plug it in anywhere - given the circuit can handle the load. And, really even if it cant handle the load, the OCP will open.

Matt: Art. 610.31 says it must have a lockable disconnecting means.

Steve: It is 1/6 hp and 3.6 amps according to the name plate. But my question is on the circuitry.Doesn't it have to be on it's own circuit or on a motor circuit? Which article in the N.E.C. says that?
