Not sure how an equivalent to NEMA starters can last even a quarter the life of a rugged real deal quality starter ( A&B or Square D ) when the inferior IEC starters believe are only rated for 100,000 operations & guessing NEMA starters are a million.
Properly applied devices will have similar life, whether they are NEMA, definite purpose, or IEC style. The problem is engineering/designing for cost savings not long life.

But since we tend to abuse our equipment, NEMA devices will last longer...IEC devices don't stand up to abuse.
However, you are 100% correct, IEC devices, when applied and used within their ratings are fine.
